
Process Operator - Food Manufacturing (Apprenticeship)
Program Overview
Program Delivery: Full time; In-class and apprenticeship (on-the-job) training
Program Length: 300 hours
Designation upon graduation: Ontario College Certificate
The Process Operator-Food Manufacturing program is designed to provide students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to pursue a career in the Food Processing Industry. The program is based on the MTCU Schedule of Training and consists of 300 “in-class” hours.
Courses
Areas covered include food safety and security, electrical and instrumentation techniques, food manufacturing and the environment, mechanical techniques, communication and computer skills and continuous quality improvement.
Graduation
Students are required to complete all the courses and 4000 “on-the-job” hours in order to become a journeyperson.
Career Opportunities
- Graduates from this program will be qualified for a highly skilled process operator (i.e. machine operator) position.
Admission Requirements
- Prospective students must be registered apprentices under the Apprenticeship Certification Act (ACA) or the Trades Qualification and Apprenticeship Act (TQAA) with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (M.T.C.U.) in the Operator - Food Manufacturing - Trade Code 246T.
- New legislation now requires all Industrial Trades (ACA) to have Grade 12. Preparation for admission can be obtained through the Employment Preparation Program for those 19-years of age or older.
